About Us

At The Orange Toolbox, we believe that every child has the potential to build, create, and explore. Our hands-on, child-led construction workshops are designed for children aged 2 to 16, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN), giving every young builder the chance to learn practical skills in a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment.

Founded by Ben Hurst, a builder with over 22 years of experience in the construction industry, The Orange Toolbox was created to spark curiosity, confidence, and creativity through real-world building experiences. Our workshops cover a wide range of trades — including carpentry, bricklaying, landscaping, plumbing, electrical work, roofing, tiling, and more — giving children the freedom to explore different skills and discover where their passions lie.

From hammering and sawing to wiring and designing, our sessions encourage independent thinking, problem-solving, and a sense of accomplishment — qualities that last far beyond the workshop. We adapt activities to suit every ability level, ensuring each child feels included, capable, and proud of what they create.

Whether it’s a first-time builder picking up a tool or a budding engineer bringing their own ideas to life, The Orange Toolbox is a place where learning happens through doing.

In August 2025 The Orange ToolBox received an award for 'Best Constructions Skills Educator - South East England' by Build magazine, a highly respected worldwide international magazine for the construction industry. We are incredibly proud to have been recognised and honoured for this award.

Our mission is simple: Build skills. Build confidence. Build the future.
